Electric vehicles as the ecological future of communication

More affordable prices and even wider ranges - these are the features that will soon contribute to the increasing popularity of electric cars on global roads. The worldwide trend toward electromobility is gaining momentum, and the intensified  efforts of EV manufacturers, politicians and drivers themselves give hope for a better and greener future of communication.

The trend toward electric vehicles has been developing in the world for over a dozen years and is a response to the burning issues related to air pollution, especially in large urban agglomerations. Manufacturers offer continuously improving parameters of their electric cars to encourage drivers to choose an ecological alternative to a traditional and car. There are multiple advantages related to EVs. The most important of them is the lack of carbon dioxide emissions, as well as other harmful pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides. Cleaner roads full of ecological vehicles are not only the wave of the future, but they are also closer to reality.

The global electric car market is growing

Until recently, the biggest challenge for electric car manufacturers was to develop a strong battery that would allow us to travel more than the mere 150-200 km on a single charge. Everything seems to have succeeded. Electric cars of the latest generation have impressive ranges, because they allow you to travel up to 500-600 km on a single battery charge, and their prices start from about 150,000 PLN. Especially noteworthy for Polish drivers are: Volkswagen e-Golf, which offers a range of 300 km (price range from 164 890 PLN), Nissan LEAF up to 499 km (price range from 150,000 PLN) or Tesla Model 3 guaranteeing up to 499 km (from 204 PLN 000). There is also an interesting offer from Opel. The Ampera-e model during the tests covered the distance from Görlitz to Aachen (750 km) on a single battery charge. The manufacturer formally warrants a range of 520 km. So far, the model is not yet available on the Polish market.

Undoubtedly, better parameters of electric cars arouse greater interest of drivers. The Automotive Group ranking on the sale of electric cars in 2018 shows the top sellers and their global results. The leader is Tesla with the number of 245 240 models sold, followed by BYD (229 338), Renault-Nissan (192 711), BAIC (165 369) and the BMW Group (142 217 cars). The SAIC, Geely, Volkswagen, Hyundai-Kia and Cherry qualified for the top ten manufacturers of electric and electrified cars (i.e.plug-in hybrids).

Countries with the most- developed electromobility.

The largest market for electric cars currently exists in Asian countries and in the United States. However, in Europe, the fashion for EVs is dynamically developing primarily in the Scandinavian countries, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. Research shows that only from January 1 to June 30, 2018 European drivers bought a total of 195,000 electric cars. The innovation of manufacturers and the growing environmental awareness of drivers, as well as relevant systemic measures have a significant impact on the development of electromobility. For example, in Norway (often referred to as a paradise for electric cars), the government introduced a series of tax reliefs willingly availed of by the owners of hybrid and fully-electric vehicles.

Not only cars are electric today

Who has not yet heard about electric bikes today that win the hearts of mountain or city trips lovers; or about eco-friendly scooters that can be rented via an app and charged in designated city points? There are a lot of options, but today electric buses are the most popular. If they replace the traditional public transport, they will have a chance to effectively eliminate the problem of exhaust fumes. In 2018 alone, 5% of all registered buses in East Central Europe were fully electric vehicles.

A huge contribution to the development of electromobility is made by the manufacturer of the low-floor Solaris buses. The Solaris Urbino 12 electric bus won the highest prize in the international European plebiscite called Bus of the Year 2017 at the commercial vehicle fair in Hannover, Germany. This is the first such title awarded to an electric bus.

The future of electromobility

Everything indicates that the growing awareness of drivers, involvement of politicians and better results of the work of vehicle manufacturers will positively affect the development of electromobility in the world. In the era of a fast-paced life the threat posed by the effects of smog, as well as the environmental degradation the choice of an electric vehicle will be pretty obvious.
